How to Use this Wiki

The ACNA West Wiki serves two purposes:

# As an academic standard based on the 8 Canonical Areas used to plan a candidate's education

# As a study guide for candidates as they prepare for ACNA West Canonical Exams

The first purpose of this wiki is to provide people seeking ordination within an ACNA West diocese with a clear understanding of the areas of formation that are desired by their dioceses. There are separate sections for those preparing for ordination to the Presbyterate and to the Diaconate. Ideally, the ACNA West Wiki should be given to candidates by their diocese early in the discernment process. If the candidate is preparing for Seminary or other kinds of formal theological education, the ACNA West Wiki should be used as a guide for course selection and academic focus.

The second purpose of this wiki to provide a study guide for those preparing for Canonical Exams for ordination to either the Presbyterate or the Diaconate.

For Presbyters:

A common canonical examination for candidates to the Presbyterate covering the 8 Canonical Areas has been developed and is administered by the Board of Examining Chaplains of ACNA West. Canonical Areas - This link will take candidates for the Presbyterate to the study guide pages prepared for their use in preparing for the ACNA West Common Canonical Exams for Presbyters.

Candidates for ordination to the presbyterate in the ACNA West Dioceses can find information regarding the exam process and study materials on the Board of Examining Chaplains page.

For Deacons:

Deacons taking Canonical Exams in the six ACNA West Dioceses are encouraged to consult the Canonical Exam Study Guide for Deacons by clicking the For Deacons link. Deacons are examined in the same Canonical Areas as Presbyters. However, the scope and focus of the Canonical Exams reflect the unique ministry of Deacons. A common canonical exam for deacons is currently in development. Candidates for the Diaconate are encouraged to contact their Diocesan offices to determine how to proceed.
