The most important sources for moral decision making for any Christian are Holy Scripture and the Holy Tradition. Holy Scripture informs Christians about the ends of human life (teleology), the basic rules that underlie ethical behavior (deontology) and the consequences of actions (consequentialism). Holy Scripture describes the virtues that shape the Christian character and the laws which provide the foundation for human action. A deep and wide reading of the Christian tradition will inform contemporary Christians as to how Christians in the past have made ethical decisions, both as a community and as individuals.
