Discipleship

A “disciple” (noun) is someone who adheres to the teachings and takes up the ways of another. Applied to Jesus, a disciple is someone who learns from him to live like him —who conforms his words and ways to the words and ways of Jesus. The four Gospels give us the definitive portrait of Jesus showing us what it means to be his disciple. The Gospels reveal to us that the life of a disciple of Jesus will evidence that he/she is a Worshiper (Jn. 4:24), a Worker with a Servant’s heart (Mk. 10:43-45), and a Witness (Acts 1:8). Practical Theology is the development and implementation of discipleship models that will transform converts into fruitful disciples of Jesus. Proven models like confirmation preparation, catechesis, developing a rule of life, small groups (Bible Study & Topical), and spiritual direction are a good beginning. Raising up disciples whose lives are being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ is absolutely vital to the health, growth and influence of the Church as salt and light in the world.
