I was raised in a Christian family as a Southern Baptist in Virginia. During high school my faith really came alive so I went to Bible college at what is now Cairn University in Philadelphia, followed by an M.A. in Biblical Studies at Dallas Theology Seminary. I was ordained a Baptist minister at that time and began serving as a pastor at Becker Baptist Church in Minnesota while earning a second M.A. in Church History at St. John's School of Theology in Collegeville, MN. By this time (1999) I knew that I wanted to do a PhD so my wife Christina and I moved to Toronto so that I could earn a doctorate from the University of St. Michael's College, focusing on medieval monasticism. While in Toronto at the Greek Gospel Church (a bi-lingual Baptist church composed of Greek immigrants) and then at Fair Havens Community Church.
In 2005 we moved to La Mirada, CA so that I could begin teaching at Biola University. In the years leading up to this transition I had wanted to become an Anglican but my wife was not ready until we moved to CA. We attended Blessed Sacrament Episcopal Church for nearly four years, during which time I became an Anglican priest with the Anglican Mission in the Americas. In 2009 I began serving at All Saints, Long Beach with Bp. Bill Thompson. Currently I am an Associate Professor at Biola and Rector of Anglican Church of the Epiphany, a church we started on Advent I, 2012.
