Healing Ministry
The ministry of healing was modelled by Jesus as part of his messianic calling (Isaiah 61:1), which he specifically quoted on several occasions (Luke 4:18, Luke 7:22) He committed this ministry not only to his apostles but to seventy two disciples that he sent out (Luke 10:9) The ministry of healing is mentioned several times in I Corinthians 12, and in James 5:14-16 those who are sick are encouraged to ask for prayer and anointing by the “elders of the church.” The ministry of healing prayer may be offered by individuals, groups or the entire congregation and may address physical, mental, emotional and relational issues.
Ordained leaders may offer healing prayer during a liturgy, or privately to individuals or groups of people. They may also offer sacramental anointing to those who are either sick or dying.
